Orville E.A. Walter passed away Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville.
He was born June 13, 1931, on the farm near
Homestead, Iowa, the son of Carl and Meta (Huedepohl) Walter. He attended Immanuel Parochial School near Williamsburg. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. Orville was united in marriage to Rita Knipfer on June 25, 1955, at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. He had farmed and lived on the family farm all his life.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Orville was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Iburg Poulson VFW Post 8797 in Williamsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Rita; three daughters, Kelly (Howard) Buck of Tiffin, Kim (Terry) Gorsh of Boone and Carma Morrison of Williamsburg; seven grandchildren, Miranda and Meridith Hochstetler of Tiffin, Jessica (Shawn) Stimmel of Cedar Rapids, Emmy (Eric) Quanitance of Solon, Jacob Escher of Boone, Heath Walter of Williamsburg and Paige Morrison of Marengo; seven great-grandchildren, Caden and Bella Stimmel, Austin and Allison Quanitance, Brenten Walter, Zoey Newcomb and Meta Evans; and a brother, Reno Walter of Oxford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Rodney; three sisters, Norma Schmidt, Erna Collingwood and Lillie Neitzel; four brothers, Adolph, LeRoy, Melvin and Arnold; a granddaughter, Rachel Evans; and a grandson, Chad Evans.
Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. Pastor Richard Meyer will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, with a military service by the Iburg Poulson VFW Post 8797.
Memorials are for the Iburg Poulson VFW, Immanuel Lutheran Church or Iowa City Hospice.
