He served in the Navy during World War II, and during that time he was married on April 13, 1945, in Norfolk, Va., to Bette Harris.
Following his time in the service, Bette and Orville raised their family in Blairstown. He worked at the Denniston & Partridge Lumber Yard, where he worked his way up to manager. He left the lumber yard in 1970, and later worked at K-mart in Cedar Rapids until his retirement in 1985.
Bud enjoyed playing golf, woodworking, playing cards with friends, going to Clear Lake fishing and helping his grandsons learn to fish.
