Ormsby, Mark A.
Mark A. Ormsby, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at All Saints Catholic Church with the Rev. David O'Connor officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Ill. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; children, Michele (Jerry) Johnson of Cedar Rapids, and Mark C. (Sheri) Ormsby of Davenport; and one granddaughter, Sarah Katherine Ormsby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Katherine Ormsby, two brothers and two sisters.
Mark was born April 29, 1930, in Kokomo, Ind., the son of Charles and Katherine (Dwyer) Ormsby. He married Marilyn Crawford on May 7, 1955, in Kokomo. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and was a United States Army veteran of Vietnam. Mark served with the U.S. Army in France and Germany as well as NATO in Brussels Belgium and the Pentagon in Washington. Just before his retirement from the Army, he was Deputy Commander of Rock Island Arsenal. After his Army Service, he was a district manager for Iowa/Illinois Gas and Electric. Mark was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus in Cedar Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mark's name may be directed to the American Heart Association or to the Alzheimer's Association.
