Ormond, Kristin Elise Soderquist
Kristin Elise Soderquist Ormond, 63, of Cedar Rapids, and The Villages, Fla., died of breast cancer Friday, July 2, 2010, with her loving family at her side. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Kristin was born Aug. 30, 1946, in Dearborn, Mich., to Charles and Barbara Soderquist. She graduated from Princeton High School in Cincinnati, Ohio and earned her B.A. degree from DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., in 1968. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Upon graduation, she worked for the Ford Motor Co. in Dallas, Texas as one of the company's first female executive trainees in the country. Relocating to Cambridge, Mass., she was employed by the Harvard Trust Co. It was there that she met and married her husband, Richard.
Kristin is survived by her husband of 40 years, Richard; their daughters, Elise (Mark) Duesing and Jessica (Mike) Warmenhoven; granddaughters, Madeline and Abigail Warmenhoven, and grandsons, Matthew, Maxwell and Mitchell Duesing, all of Marion. She is also survived by a brother, Benson Soderquist (Susie) of Dallas; and forever her best friend and sister, Susan Schreur (Jeffrey) of Grand Rapids, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family took great comfort in having Richard's sister, Dorene Norton (Steve), for loving and supporting them during this difficult time, with Dorene being a hospice nurse.
Her greatest joy in life was her family and all the great times they had together. Her greatest accomplishment was raising her daughters to become lovely women and wonderful mothers to her grandchildren, whom she dearly loved and enjoyed.
Kristin and Richard had a rich life together. They enjoyed vacationing at their cottage in Grand Haven, Mich., exploring and appreciating the great natural beauty of this country, and loving their many dogs over the years, most recently Mickey, Willie and Susie. She sang and performed with the Cedar Rapids Sweet Adelines for over 20 years, including a performance at Carnegie Hall.
Kristin was sorry to leave her husband and family so soon, but hopes that she instilled in them her love of reading, music, landscape design, knowledge of insignificant and inconsequential facts, and a quirky sense of humor.
