Orlyn Brunssen
Orlyn Brunssen
Anamosa
Orlyn Dallas Brunssen, age 83, of Anamosa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born on June 13, 1942, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, Orlyn grew up with a deep love for his family, mowing, and being with others. He carried that love into every chapter of his life—whether it was through his hard work, his devotion to family, or the countless stories and jokes he shared.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, his gentle strength, and the way he could make everyone feel welcomed in his presence. Orlyn had a knack for turning everyday moments into cherished memories—whether it was teaching the grandkids how to make hollyhock dolls, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, or tending to his garden and plants with care.
Above all, family was his greatest joy. He was a devoted husband to Kathy, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage. He was a proud father to Jeff (and Jennifer) Brunssen and Shawna (and Russ) Auderer, and a loving grandpa to Skyler (and Justine) Brunssen, Courtney Brunssen, Austin (and Chloe) Pruett, Tiffany Auderer, Tasha Auderer, and Olivia Auderer. He was Grandpa Great to four great-grandchildren. His presence in our lives was a steady anchor, and his love will remain with us always.
He is survived by his wife Kathy Brunssen and brother Gaylan (and Karen) Brunssen, sisters-in-law Dru Brunssen, Joyce Brunssen, and Karen Brunssen, and brother- and sister-in-law Ronnie and Geri Frerick. He was preceded in death by his parents Dallas and Phyllis Brunssen, his three brothers Dennis, Craig, and Kim Brunssen, brother-in-law Raymond (and Karen) Frerick, and sister-in-law Rosemary Kristjanson.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2025, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 103 E. Cedar Street, Anamosa, IA 52205. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. also at the church.
Friends and family are welcome to gather, share stories, and honor a life well lived. Casual attire please.
Though we will miss him deeply, we are grateful for the laughter, wisdom, and love he gave so freely. His memory will live on in our hearts forever.
