Orleen C. Nekola, 89, of Traer, formerly of Toledo, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 21, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in
Tama, with a graveside service following at Holy Trinity Cemetery, rural Toledo.
Orleen was born Aug. 27, 1925, in Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Lucy (Cherveny) Spinler. On Feb. 18, 1947, she was united in marriage to Milvoy Nekola at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Tama. Orleen was a cook at the county home and an area nursing home. She also worked as a checker at Von's Bi-Lo.
Orleen enjoyed embroidering and watching professional wrestling. She also liked number painting, listening to polka music and gardening.
She is survived by her daughter, Chris (Dennis) Banes of Traer; two grandchildren, Sheri (Dave) Sadowski of Wellsburg and David Banes of Altus, Okla.; three great-grandchildren, Scott, Jason and Amanda Sadowski; one sister, Mildred Weaver of Montezuma; one brother, Robert "Earl" (Helen) Spinler of Lost Nation; her sister-in-law, Gladys Spinler of Chelsea; and many nieces and nephews.
Orleen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milvoy; a son, Dean Nekola; one granddaughter, Monica; three sisters, Gladys Kasal, Bernice Vore and Violet Eisele; and one brother, Lawrence "Bud" Spinler.
A memorial fund has been established.
