Ordell "Del" H. Newgaard, 78, of Western, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on
Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Burial will be in Shueyville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Brosh Chapel.
Ordell was born Feb. 16, 1937, in Spring Grove, Minn., the son of Oberlin and Harriet (Bratland) Newgaard. He attended Spring Grove High School. Del was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Roe on July 7, 1974.
Del was owner and operator of Del's Auto Body in Western. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, coffee with his friends, watching all sports, participating in various tractor rides and steam engine events, collecting antiques and refurbishing gas memorabilia, parading his '39 Ford Coupe, and most of all, spending time with his family.
Del is survived by his wife, Ruth; his sons: David and Jeri Newgaard of Phoenix, Ariz., and their children, Nicholas, Taylor, Dillon and Cole; Mike Newgaard of Cedar Rapids, and his daughters, Megan and Nicole; and Shawn and Noel Newgaard of Westminster, Calif., and their son, Kia, and his daughter, Cameron; stepson, Terry Williams of Cedar Rapids, and his sons, Connor and Spencer, and his daughter, Alexandra; his brother, Alton Newgaard of Spring Grove, Minn.; and his sisters, Donna (Dick) Meyer, Darlene Evenson, Phi (Fred) LeMarche and Linda (Larry) Gomer, all of Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Clinton Newgaard; and his brother-in-law, Donnie Evenson.
