Onstott, Elvin Lee 'Otis'
Elvin Lee “Otis” Onstott, 65, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, in his Cedar Rapids home. A celebration of life open house will be Saturday, March 19, from 3 until 6 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Choices, Mount Vernon. The family request casual clothes for the open house. Private family services: Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery, with military honors.
Surviving Elvin are his family: Elvin's daughter, Danielle Onstott (and special friend Wayne Sweeny and daughter Taiylor) and her children, Kathryn, Jacob, Jessalyn and K.J., and Elvin's son, Robert, and his daughter, Tristin, all of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving Elvin are his late brother Glen's wife, Cindy Onstott, Iberia, Mo., and their family, his late sister Ellen Melsha's family, his late brother Arnie's wife, Ricki, and her family; and all of his close friends.
Elvin was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Charlotte (Akers) Onstott; wife, Kathy; brothers, Glen and Arnie; and sister, Ellen Melsha.
Elvin was born Sept. 24, 1945, in Princeton, Mo. Elvin and his family moved to Mount Vernon, where he graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1963. He served with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam. Elvin married Kathy Wolfe in 1975. He worked for 32 years at Rockwell Goss until it closed. Elvin worked at Energy Manufacturing, Monticello, until his retirement.
Elvin loved his family, golfing, and bowling with his special friends, Joe Woods, Dan Wolfe, Dennis Williams, Julia Moffit, Dave Humphrey, Tom Stejskal, Don and Marty Berner, and many other friends. Otis was an absolute die-hard Minnesota Vikings and Dale Earnhart fan. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Elvin will be deeply missed by many and never forgotten.
A memorial fund in Elvin's honor has been established at the Mount Vernon Bank and Trust.
