Ondler, John P.
John P. Ondler, 69, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, by the Rev. Del Bear, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Inurnment: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at the Coggon Cemetery, with military honors provided by Coggon American Legion Post 362.
John is survived by his children, Brian Ondler of Coggon, Joel (Cathy) Ondler of Cedar Rapids, Nettie Ondler of Marion and Phillip (Taryn) Ondler of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Jessie, Kayley, Travis and Ethan; a brother, Don (Debra) Ondler of Burley, Idaho; and extended family members, Brent Rowe and Joshua Andrews.
John was born March 20, 1942, the son of Ira (Doc) and Florence (Hinton) Ondler in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. John worked at Wilson Foods in Cedar Rapids for 29 years.
“Dad” loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, NASCAR, and a cold beer with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in John's memory.
