Onalee Paul Arnold, 91, of Marion, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, at Terrace Glen Village in Marion, Iowa. Family will greet friends beginning at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2023, at Marion Methodist Church in Marion, Iowa, until service time, at 11:30 a.m., luncheon will follow at the church. Private family inurnment will be held at Prairie Chapel Cemetery in Marion.
Onalee was born on Feb. 14, 1931, in Decorah, Iowa, the only daughter of Edward R. and Nova G. (Coons) Paul. She attended Ossian Public School, Prairie Ridge 18 rural Marion School, and graduated from Marion High School. She attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Milton B. Arnold on Aug. 14, 1950. To this 69-year union were born four children: Novalee, Michael, Paula and Sabra.
Onalee was a board-certified record searcher, genealogist and historian interested in the history of Linn County, Iowa. She taught genealogy courses at Kirkwood Community College. She was an avid quilter. She was active in volunteering at Linn-Mar Schools, United Methodist Women, Daughters of the American Revolution, Mayflower Society and many others.
She was known for her sense of humor and ready smile. She loved her God, her husband and family. She made friends for life and knew no strangers, as all were welcomed to their home on the family farm. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Onalee is survived by a daughter, Novalee (James) Coats of Mountain Grove, Mo.; a son, Michael (LeAnn) Arnold of Marion; a daughter, Paula Pettig of St. Peters, Mo.; a daughter, Sabra (Kurt) Ehlert of Foristell, Mo.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, whom she cherished.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Arnold; her son-in-law, Craig Pettig; and her parents, Edward and Nova Paul.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Terrace Glen Village for the compassionate loving care they provided Onalee.
