Ona Maxine Wilson, 94, of rural Hopkinton, passed away Friday, July 18, 2014, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.
She was born Dec. 30, 1919, the daughter of James and Flora (Mitchell) Humphreys of St. Louis, Mo. Maxine's father died when she was a young girl and she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Edward Cannon. She was educated in Cedar Rapids and was a graduate of McKinley High School.
Maxine married Oral Maring in 1940. Three children were born to this union. They later divorced.
On March 14, 1954, Maxine was united in marriage to Ralph G. Wilson at Buck Creek United Methodist Church in Buck Creek. Together they farmed on the Wilson Family Farm in Hazel Green Township.
Maxine raised horses and was nationally known as an Arabian horse breeder. She enjoyed caring for her horses and dogs. Maxine was a member of the Buck Creek United Methodist Church.
Maxine is survived by her sons, Blayne (Nadine) Maring of Austin, Texas, and Dennis Maring of Placerville, Calif.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elda Landers of Manchester; two brothers-in-law, Rodney (Jean) Wilson of Hopkinton and Roger (Jan) Wilson of Slater; and her very good friends and neighbors, Steve and Mary Sheppard of Coggon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, on Dec. 17, 2003; her parents; her stepfather, Edward Cannon; her son, Paul Maring, in 2008; and her sister, Helen Gilman.

Funeral services: 11 a.m. Monday, July 21, at Buck Creek United Methodist Church, Buck Creek. Visi-tation: 10 to 11 a.m. Monday before the service at the church. The Rev. Kathleen Moore will officiate. Interment: Buck Creek Cemetery, Buck Creek.
