O'Meara, Lawrence 'Larry'
Lawrence “Larry” O'Meara, 60, of 309 First St., Colesburg, died 2 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at his home in Colesburg. Friends and relatives of Larry may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, where a wake service will be held at 4 p.m., the Farley American Legion Auxiliary will meet in a body at 6:45 p.m. and the Farley American Legion and New Vienna VFW service will be held at 7 p.m. Services for Larry will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Farley, with full military honors afforded by the Farley American Legion Post 656 and New Vienna VFW Post 7736.
Larry was born Feb. 15, 1952, in Oelwein, Iowa, son of Jim Konzen and Lois O'Meara. He received his education at St. Joseph's School in Farley and graduated from Western Dubuque High School in Epworth. On Oct. 15, 1971, he was united in marriage to Patricia “Patty” Elliott at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley. He was an Army veteran, having served from 1971 to 1991; during his career he served in Fort Leonardwood, Mo., Fort Hood, Texas, and at the Pentagon, as well as six years in Germany and five years in Italy. After retiring from the service he was employed with the City of Colesburg; before that he was employed at Exide in Manchester and also worked as a handyman.
He was a member of the Farley American Legion Post 656 and the New Vienna VFW Post 7736.
He is survived by his wife, Pat O'Meara of Colesburg; two children, Lori O'Meara of Chehalis, Wash., and Matt (Cindy) O'Meara of Center Point; five grandchildren, Taylor and Kaitlin Hutchinson, Kyrstin Froehle, Jenna and Megan O'Meara; one great-grandchild, Peyton Hutchinson; five siblings, Jerry (Lynn) Konzen of Farley, Ray (Millie) Konzen of Albuquerque, N.M., Steve “Matt” Konzen of Farley, Judy (Dave) Trenkamp of Farley, Jane (Kenny) Bolsinger of Colesburg; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Michael (Vi) Elliott of Dubuque and Mary Beth Elliott of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Konzen.
A Lawrence O'Meara Memorial Fund has been established.
