O'Malley, William B.
William B. O'Malley, 84, of Iowa City, passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, following a short illness. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Rudolph Juarez will officiate. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Private burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or St. Patrick's Church.
William was born April 26, 1929, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of William and Margaret (McGoey) O'Malley. He attended St. Patrick's Church and school in Perry, Iowa, and then Creighton University and completed the physical therapy program at the University of Iowa.
He served as the director of Physical Therapy at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City for 31 years. William always said he worked with such great people and met many outstanding patients. He was active in St. Patrick's parish in Iowa City and served on the parish council, as a lector, and as a Eucharistic minister. William married the love of his life, Virginia Anderson in Perry, Iowa, on Sept. 13, 1952. They were blessed with more than 50 years of marriage.
Survivors include their children, Catherine (Pat) Lynch of Wyoming, Michael O'Malley of Des Moines, Patrick (Yunxia) O'Malley of Iowa City and Mary Chay (fiance Rob Miecznikowski) of Iowa City; brother, James (Diane) O'Malley of Florida; sisters-in-law, Maureen and Toni Anderson; grandchildren, Stephen (Rebecca) Lynch, Elizabeth (Wes) Little, Kevin (Jasin Eaton) Lynch, Michelle (Jordan) Folkers, Brian Lynch, Malinda, Ryan and Shawna O'Malley, Eric and Angela Chay; and three great-grandchildren.
William was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Ginny; and his very special grandson, Nick Chay.
