Olson, Michael John 'Mike'

Michael John “Mike” Olson, 58, of Marion, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at his home following a sudden illness. Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Marion, by the Rev. Dennis Johnson. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Private family inurnment: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, at a later date.

Survivors include his mother, Vera Olson; three brothers, Ron, Jay and Randy (Amy) Olson; two nephews, Tyler (Keisha) and Andrew Olson; three nieces, Amee (Michael) Lane, Hannah and Rachel Olson; two grandnephews, Titus Olson and Max Lane; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Mike was born Aug. 8, 1952, in Marion, Iowa, the son of Jonas and Vera (Irvine) Olson. He graduated from Marion Independent High School in 1971. Mike worked at Kwik Way for a number of years and then with Olson Brothers Sodding and Landscaping, Inc. 

He liked to fish, play golf, and spend time with his nieces and nephews. Mike's favorite past time was cooking and spending time with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Mike's memory.
