Olson, Lawrence M.
Lawrence M. Olson, 99, of Vallejo, Calif., formerly of New Hampton, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at his home in Vallejo surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at Jerico Lutheran Church in Jerico, Iowa. Burial will be in Jerico Lutheran Cemetery with Larry Throndson, Terry Throndson, John Roberson, Steve Roberson, James Costello, Orin Johnson, Neil Shaffer and Paul Swenumson serving as casket bearers. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Lawrence Melvin Olson was born Sept. 14, 1913, to Gunder and Lena (Johnson) Olson at Jerico. He attended country school through the eighth grade. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1945 and returned to the Jerico area where he worked for John Brannon for five years. He then moved to Cedar Rapids to work for Rockwell Collins until his retirement. Lawrence was united in marriage to Alice Kuntz on May 6, 1961, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marion. The couple lived in Cedar Rapids until they returned to New Hampton in 1988. Lawrence was a member of Jerico Lutheran Church.
Lawrence is survived by his son, Wayne (Lisa) Olson of Vallejo, Calif.; and several nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gunder and Lena Olson; his wife, Alice (Nov. 30, 2011); and one sister, Clara.
