Olson, Doris M.

Doris M. Olson, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House, Hiawatha, following a short battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, with Chaplain Christine Wagner-Hecht officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include her children, Patti (Richard) Terry of Glenwood, Michael (Gloria) Olson of Cedar Rapids, Lisa (Kent) Bowden of Cedar Rapids, Lorri (Joe) Hutchcroft of Hiawatha and Stacey (Kevin) Bowden of Cedar Rapids; stepson, Tom (Norma) Olson of Cedar Rapids; brother, James Smittkamp of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Megan, Brooke, Joel, Kevin, Ami, Cara, Ian, Kayne, Justin, Molly, Andrea, Olivia, Will, Kate, Avery and Bobbi Ann; and six great-grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and three brothers.

Doris Marie Smittkamp was born Dec. 7, 1927, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and LeOra (Fielman) Smittkamp. She married Emil E. Olson on June 8, 1952, in Nashua, Iowa. He died in 1977. Doris loved bowling, movies and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and beloved dog, Mitzi.
