Olson, Clifford M.
Clifford M. Olson, 89, of Fayette, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa after a lengthy battle with leukemia. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Grace Lutheran Church in Fayette. Friends may call one hour before service time at the church. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Fayette. Military rites will be held by the Fayette American Legion Post #339.
Clifford was born the son of Henry C. and Clara Sheppard Olson on January 6, 1921, in Elgin, Iowa. He was united in marriage with Anna Mae Ruroden on June 14, 1944, in West Union. To this union two sons were born. She preceded him in death on August 15, 1976. Clifford then married Lois Swalley on August 27, 1983. She preceded him in death on August 15, 2004. Clifford farmed east of Fayette from 1953 until his retirement in 1995. Clifford was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines and on Okinawa.
Clifford is survived by two sons, Layton (Lynda) Olson of Coralville, and Gary (Doris) Olson of Hiawatha; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth Williams of El Cajone, Calif., and Delores Ross of San Diego, Calif.
In addition to his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Allan Olson, who was killed in action in Korea.
