Olsen, Arne J.
Arne J. Olsen, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, following a brief illness. Memorial services are planned for a later date. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; sons, Steve Olsen (Jerri) of Cedar Rapids and Mark Olsen of Rockwell City; daughter, Kathy Thielen of Dubuque; and grandchildren, Erin and Travis Olsen, Jensen and Martin Olsen, Rebekah, Sarah, Katelyn and Matthew Thielen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Mary Ann Ballantyne.
Arne J. Olsen was born Nov. 13, 1927, in Copenhagen, Denmark, the son of Evald and Helga Olsen. He grew up in the West Branch area. Arne was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. On Feb. 8, 1953, he married Caroljean Feiden at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Arne worked at Wilson Foods for over 31 years, and was self-employed until the time of his death. He loved the West Branch Bears, Iowa Hawkeyes, exercising and walking First Avenue. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He cherished his annual fishing trips to Chetek, Wis.
He will be greatly missed by all who loved him and knew him.
