Olga Mae Sedenka, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021, at the Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon. Celebration of Life gathering will be from 1 to
3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St., SW. Inurnment will be in Czech National Cemetery.
Olga was born Feb. 8, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Milo and Bessie (Dvorak) Naxera. She graduated from Franklin High School, Class of 1944. Olga was united in marriage to Robert J. Sedenka on Feb. 8, 1946, at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church. She worked as a pre-school teacher for over 14 years. Olga was proud of her Czech heritage and was involved in many organizations including SOKOL, Czech Heritage Singers, Damska Matice Skalaska, National Czech and Slovak Museum Library, Museum Guild, Past President of Park Forest Garden Club, taught at Betty Anderle Day Care, and Head Start, worked at Naxera's Pastry Shop, Girl's Athletic Association, Iowa State Horticultural Society and the Federated Garden Club of Iowa. She enjoyed fashion, decorating, flowering, gardening, volunteering and spending time with her family.
Olga is survived by her children, John (Karen) Sedenka and Thomas (Sue) Sedenka, both of Lisbon; son-in-law, Dick Byard of Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Ivan (Pam) Sedenka, Shane (Nicole) Sedenka, Daniel (Lacee) Sedenka, Trey (Laura) Sedenka, Kelley McNamara, Neely (Brian) Basich and Brittney Byard; and her 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; her daughter, Lynda Byard; grandson, Bo; and her brother, Charles Naxera.
