OLENE ERLISS FLATGARD PECKHAM

Olene Erliss Flatgard Peckham, 93, of Sugar Land, Texas, formerly of Hiawatha, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, at Brookdale Assisted Living, Sugar Land. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Sugar Land, by Pastor Beth Marie Halvorsen Ph.D. Fellowship and refreshments at the church following the service.
Survivors include her children, Lt. Col. (ret.) Brian (Linda) Peckham and Pamela Marshall; grandchildren, Dr. Dawn (Roy) Westfall, Mark Thompson, Jennifer Auston, Rachael Peckham, Jason Peckham and Ryan (Samantha) Peckham; 15 great-grandhildren; and one great-great granddaughter. She also had many close nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Arthur H. Peckham.
Olene was born on the family farm near Bergen, Minn., on July 5, 1923. She had 10 brothers and sisters. She graduated from Windom High School and supported the World War II war effort by working in a factory in Detroit. She married Arthur Peckham on Aug. 25, 1945. She lived in the Cedar Rapids area for more than 50 years. She retired from the Cedar Rapids Community School District and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha. She lived her later years in Fredericksburg and Sugar Land.
