Offerman, Andrew J.
Andrew J. Offerman, 75, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, after a long battle with cancer. Friends may visit the family from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Survivors include his daughters, Teri (Doug) Routledge of Logan, Utah, and Sheri Williams of Cedar Rapids; and his son Chris Offerman (Diane Gilbertson) of Hiawatha; eight grandchildren, Michael (Amber) Mercil, Maggie Mercil, James Mercil, of Cedar Rapids, Avery Offerman, Andrew Offerman and Brad Gilbertson of Hiawatha, and Sara Cahoon and Samantha Williams of Salt Lake City, Utah; and four great-grandchildren, Hannah Martin, Madison Mercil, Katelyn Mercil and Logan Cahoon.
He was born the sixth of seven children, and is survived by four brothers and sisters.
Andy was born Dec. 23, 1934, the son of Matilda and Edward Offerman, in Earlville, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Penny Peck, which later ended in divorce. Andy joined the U.S. Army and spent 18 months in Korea as a radio operator. He worked for LeFebure Corporation where he retired.
He enjoyed fishing, his cabin, square dancing, and his family. Always one to “tinker” with mechanical things, there wasn't much he couldn't fix himself. He really enjoyed mowing the grass. Andy got to spend his retirement just the way he wanted, he often commented that he was busier now than when he worked full time.
The family would like to extend a very special Thank You to the wonderful staff of the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House, who gave dad exceptional compassion and care.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Please leave a message, tribute or memory to the Offerman family on the webpage under Obituaries.
