O'Connor, Charles Allen 'Chuck'
Charles Allen “Chuck” O'Connor, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by the Rev. William B. Harnish, with military honors. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his son, Tim O'Connor of Cedar Rapids; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Bruce Lawrence of Marion; five grandchildren, Molly Lawrence, Casey (Sarah) Lawrence, Cody (Christy) Lawrence, Carrie Griffith and Clint (Kris) Lawrence; nine great-grandchildren, Braxton, Dalton, Miah and Miranda Lawrence, Hunter, Holdyn and Havana Griffith and Olivia and Bo Lawrence; an aunt, Iris Veenstra; special cousins, Richard and Shirley Seaton and Evelyn Nelson; a niece; nephews; and a special nephew, Scott Quinby; and brother-in-law, Wayne Quinby.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and a brother, Junior, in infancy.
Chuck was born June 16, 1940, the son of Louis and Sarah (Richards) O'Connor in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Washington Senior High in 1958. Chuck joined the United States Army at Fort Hood, Texas, and served in Germany. In 1962, he was honorably discharged. He worked at Witwere's Warehouse, line switcher for the railroad, welder for P & H Harnischfeger and glazer for Union Local #581 of Rock Island, until his retirement. On Sept. 20, 1964, he was united in marriage to Judy Knaack in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She preceded him in death on March 8, 2011.
Chuck enjoyed hunting of all kinds and fishing with his family and friends and time spent with all.
