Ochs, Mabel
Mabel Ochs died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at Maplewood Manor in Keota at the age of 96 years. Celebration of Life service: 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Church of Faith in Keota. Pastor Dennis Hopes will officiate. Burial will be in Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Powell Funeral Home in Keota is caring for Mabel's arrangements.
Mabel was born June 5, 1913, in Elberon, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Anna (Vavra) Valenta. She attended school in Elberon and Keota and graduated from Keota High School in 1930. She received an Associate of the Art degree from Coe College in 1932. On Aug. 3, 1936, Mabel was united in marriage to Gerald M. Ochs at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They lived in Keota and were the parents of a daughter, Mary Ann.
From 1950 to 1975, Mabel was owner and manager of Valenta's Store in Keota. She was a member of Aspiron Chapter 198 Order of Eastern Star and Chapter CM, PEO. She enjoyed playing bridge, crossword puzzles and eating out.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter; and two sisters, Olga Peiffer and Ruth Feller.
She is survived by many friends who especially enjoyed her sense of humor and her outlook on life.
