O'Brien, Stephen R. 'Steve'
Stephen R. “Steve” O'Brien, 62, of Iowa City, died Monday, July 29, 2013, at his residence after a long illness.
Steve was born July 20, 1951, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Wanda (Haney) O'Brien and Stephen “Ralph” O'Brien. He attended Iowa City Schools and received his GED from City High School. Steve joined the U.S. Marine Corps after high school and served our country from 1971 to 1975 during the Vietnam War. Steve was living in Slidell, La., until Hurricane Katrina hit and due to health issues, was forced to move back to Iowa City.
He was always very proud of his Irish heritage. More than anything though, Steve loved and cared deeply for his family.
Preceding Steve in death were his parents and an infant brother, David Joseph.
He is survived by five sisters, Lyn (Bob) Maske, Kathie (Bill) Crow, Vicki O'Brien, M. Chris O'Brien and Amy O'Brien; two daughters, Erin O'Brien Kelt and Cade O'Brien; three sons, Matt O'Brien, Ben O'Brien and Tyler O'Brien; the mother of his children, Mary Ann O'Brien; several grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Per Steve's request, there will be no visitation or service.
