O'Brien, Betty L.
Betty L. O'Brien, 90, a resident of Bickford Cottage, Marion, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 31, 2010, at her residence following a short illness. Private family graveside services will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Surviving are her children, Ellaouise L. Maddox and husband Larry of Bonita Springs, Fla., and John Patrick O'Brien and wife K of Springville; grandchildren, Christopher Maddox and wife Natalie of Lenexa, Kan., Kate May and husband Brian of Marion, and Hannah O'Brien of Springville; great-grandchildren, Avery Maddox and Connor May; brother, David Warren and wife Luanne of Winfield, Kan.; and sister-in-law, Colleen Warren of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and brothers, Robert and Donald.
Betty was born July 5, 1919, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Merb R. and Mabel L. (Crosen) Warren. She graduated from Coe College in 1941, and was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. She was united in marriage to John J. O'Brien on Jan. 18, 1942 in Cedar Rapids. She worked in advertising at Armstrong's Department Store for 23 years. She was a member of the ABWA, Campfire and St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling the world and had a life long interest in Ireland. She also enjoyed playing bridge.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Betty's family at Bickford Cottage, the staff of St. Luke's Hospice and friend, Sherry England.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Betty's honor may be made to St. Luke's Hospice.
