Nye, Violet B.
Violet B. Nye, 93, of Phoenix, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Christian Care Nursing Center in Phoenix after a brief illness.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Hawthorne of Overland Park, Kan.; a sister, Marie Morken of La Crescent, Minn.; four grandchildren, Michael, Brian, Catherine and Mark; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James; a grandson, Daniel; two brothers and two sisters.
Vi was born in Beaver Ridge, Minn., on Sept. 2, 1917, the daughter of Gerhard and Josephine (Bidne) Viegen. She married James E. Nye on Sept. 8, 1957. Vi was a homemaker and Jim retired from Penick & Ford (Penford) in 1977 after 40 years of service. They were members of First Presbyterian Church when they resided in Cedar Rapids. Vi and Jim moved to Sun City West, Ariz., in 1995. As a resident of Fellowship Square in Phoenix for the last nine years, she was a dedicated volunteer and enjoyed other activities ranging from bingo to baking.
She will always be remembered with love and affection by her family and friends for her gentle and caring spirit.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.
