Nuzum, Melvin A.
Melvin A. Nuzum, 96, of Grinnell, formerly of Arizona and Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at the home of his daughter in Grinnell after a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Queen of All Saints Chapel at All Saints Catholic Church, where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Sheila (Allen) Latcham of Grinnell and Becky Cook of St. Charles, Va.; two stepdaughters, Sherrie Chittenden and Suzanne Lehmkuhl both of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters and his two wives.
Melvin was born Jan. 22, 1916, in Pisgah, the son of Jesse and Laura Nuzum. He married Hazel Powell in 1938 in Mondamin. She died in 1971. He later married Marilyn Spencer in 1972 in Cedar Rapids. She died in 2011.
Melvin was the owner and operator of several auto dealerships in Iowa. He was a member of the Shrine, Rotary and a 50-year member of the Masons.
He enjoyed traveling and playing golf.
