Nowotny, Alice J.
Alice J. Nowotny, 81, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at her home following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at Lensing's Oak Hill in Coralville, where the family will greet friends from noon until service time. Burial will be at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty.
Alice was born March 3, 1929, in Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore and Emily (Slaymaker) Heath. She married Mel Nowotny in Cedar Rapids on Jan. 1, 1947. Mel later passed away on Jan. 23, 2010.
Alice worked as an accountant for many years - for Helmsmen Heating and Cooling in Cedar Rapids for a number of years and for various other contractor companies. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling with her husband Mel throughout the 50 states and Europe.
Alice is survived by her two children, Dennis (Nila) Nowotny of Iowa City and Diane (Raoul) Benoit of North Liberty; a brother, Gerald Heath of Fairfax; two grandsons, Joeby (Stacy) Dyer and Mike (Jacquelyn) Nowotny, both of North Liberty; and six great-grandchildren, Hayley, Samantha, Lisa, Ashley, Kaizer and Koyer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mel; and her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Johnson County Humane Society.
