Nowik, Genevieve 'Gen'

Genevieve “Gen” Nowik, 99, of Peoria, Ill., passed away at Marengo Memorial Hospital in Marengo, Iowa on June 12, 2012. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at St. Hyacinth's Church, LaSalle, Ill., with the Rev. Adam Stimpson officiating. Burial will be in St. Hyacinth's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

She was born in LaSalle, Ill., to Jozef and Waleria Nowik. She retired from Caterpillar after over 30 years of employment. She was active in the Caterpillar Retirees Club. She was also a longtime member of American Business Women's Association. In 2001 ABWA Peoria Chapter honored her with its Woman of the Year Award. She was the first president of the newly organized Caterpillar Girls Club at the Morton Plant Parts Department in September 1958.

She is survived by her son, Francis J. Nowik of DeKalb, Ill.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
