Novak, Leo F.
Leo F. Novak, 79, of Covington, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 12, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, with burial to follow in Czech National Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Full military rites will be conducted by Hanford American Legion Post 5. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Leo was born Nov. 28, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Joseph and Agnes Novak. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1951. He married Iva “Ivy” Hlavac on June 14, 1950, in Iowa City. He was a truck driver for over 37 years for King's Concrete until his retirement. Leo was a member of the Hanford American Legion.
Leo is survived by his wife, Ivy; a son, Gary (Sue) Novak of Lisbon; a daughter, Diana Beck of Des Moines; a son, Dr. Allan (Sheryl) Novak of Cedar Rapids; a son, Joseph (Angela) Novak of Lowden; a brother, Leonard Novak of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard Novak; and a sister-in-law, Betty Novak.
Memorials may be directed to the Hanford American Legion Post 5 in his name.
