Donald E. Novak
Donald E. Novak, 87, of Cedar Rapids went to be with his Lord on Friday, June 28, 2013, at Silver Pines. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sharon United Methodist Church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Survivors include a son, Donald (Sue), and a daughter, Kathleen (Steve) Weiss, all of Cedar Rapids; the Novak grand-cats; and several loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen; two sisters; one brother; and a very special cat, Elmo.
Don was born on Sept. 20, 1925, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles and Alice Hynek Novak. When his parents passed away he was raised by his cousins, Charles and Ella Mahacek, from a young age. He married Ellen Marie McDonough on March 21, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. Ellen passed away in December 2012. Don worked at Penick & Ford and retired from there after more than 34 years of service. He later worked at Cedar River Tower in maintenance for eight years.
Don was a faithful member of Sharon United Methodist Church. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Cedar Rapids Kernels, the Baltimore Orioles, Colts, and Ravens. Don also enjoyed gardening and the time spent with his beloved family. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
