Norris Brashear, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, at his home. A private family service will take place. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, rural Toddville. Arrangements made by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Callene Brashear of Cedar Rapids; children, Rob (Allison) Brashear of San Diego, Calif., Rhonda (David) Lichnerowicz of Amana and Brenda McKay of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Melanie, Adam, Ryan, Josh, Luke, Hannah and Noah; four great-grandchildren, Chance, Gavin, Elliana and Lyla; sisters, Grace Jones and Martha Fritch, both of Texas; and his beloved pets.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruth Redmond; and brother, Horace Brashear.
Norris was born March 17, 1944, in Memphis, Tenn., son of Ethraim and Ilene (Tabor) Brashear. He attended McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids. On Jan. 27, 1962, he married Callene Alexander in Cedar Rapids. Norris worked for Downey Box factory, then Cherry Burrell for 20 years and later was a self-employed entrepreneur.
He loved buying and fixing up cars to sell and was a carpenter, building their house and his children's houses. Norris was a jack-of-all-trades and was very knowledgeable and always willing to help.
