NORMAN ERNEST WASSMER

Norman Ernest Wassmer, 80, of Vinton, passed away Monday, June 11, 2018, at home from heart failure. Per his wishes, he was cremated and will be buried with his wife, Jacqueline, in Oahu, Hawaii. There will be an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at the Alburnett Historical Society for those who would like to pay their respects and share memories of Norman and Jacqueline. Entrusted with the arrangements is Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Norman was born Nov. 30, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Helen (Titler) Wassmer. Norman grew up on a farm and later became a farmer himself. After retiring from farming, he worked for Linn County, Lindale Mall and helped young farmers in the community. He was a member of FFA and the Lions Club. Norman also drove the school bus for Alburnett Community School for over 40 years and subbed for Linn-Mar schools.
Norman married Jacqueline Lee Barcus on March 7, 1959, in Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by three children, Monica Dobling of Vinton, Nathan (Ira) Wassmer of Oahu, Hawaii, and Roxanne Wassmer of Vinton; four grandchildren, Nathan Raymond Wassmer of Maryland, Amber Neagle of Cedar Rapids, Raymond Colony of Springville and Troy Neagle of Iowa City; a great-grandchild, Julian Ernest Bruce of Cedar Rapids; and four siblings, Lora Ann Minor of South Dakota, Judy Easterday of Illinois, Rick (Karen) Wassmer of Davenport and Rita Kluber of Tiffin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Jacqueline.
Norman enjoyed farming and would create farming replicas in his spare time. He enjoyed showing them off to his Oahu friends and sending pictures to his family and friends back in Iowa. Norman would even incorporate trains into his replicas, especially around Christmas time. Norman also loved flying, snowmobiling and traveling. He would travel to see his family whenever he could.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, Alzheimer's Association or UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospice.
Norman would like to thank everyone who was on his train of life!
