Norman Richard Fisher passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 18th following a strong, and several month fight against pneumonia.
Norman was born July 11, 1935, in Troy Mills, Iowa, the son of Fred Calvin and Burnita Sarah Jane (Dudley) Fisher. He attended grade school in Troy Mills and graduated from high school in 1953. Norman married Carol Jean Hemphill on Feb. 23, 1958, and began farming together north of Troy Mills, while growing their family of three children, Barbara, Diane, and Richard.
Norman was an active member of Troy Mills Christian Church and various activities within the Pork Producers. He won awards and was featured in several magazines for his farming successes and was well known for breeding high-end seed stock in swine. In retirement, he started creative endeavors including building a cupola, family signs, and welded yard art. Above all, he was a dedicated father, husband and grandfather.
Norman will be deeply missed by his three children and their families Barbara (John) Burke of Coggon, Diane (Randy) McVey of Alburnett, and Richard (Beth) Fisher of Waukee; five grandchildren, Trisha (Todd) Hittenmiller, Stacey Burke, Trent McVey, Jordan Fisher and Morgan Fisher; two great-grandchildren, Brody and Breah; brother Russel (Janet) Fisher and family. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol, married for 62 years at her passing, and a grandson, Logan McVey.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the St. Lukes LifeGuard Air Ambulance via the UnityPoint Health St. Luke’s Foundation, Troy Mills Fire Department, or a favorite local charity of your choice.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at Troy Mills Christian Church. The burial will be held at Troy Mills Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21st at the church. The Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
