Norman "Norm" Carl Rowray, 90, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at River of Life, 3801 Blairs Ferry Rd. NE, Cedar Rapids. Private burial is at a later date.
He is survived by his very special friend, Margie Sims; his daughters, Jennifer Rowray (Rita DeVenney) of Newhall and Carol Rafferty of Grand Mound; son-in-law, the Rev. Ron Rafferty of Grand Mound; son, James (Terri) Rowray of Shepherdsville, Ky.; grandchildren, Shane Rafferty of Broken Arrow, Okla., Kevin (Jacque) Rowray, Robert, Corbin, Kayla and Lori DeVenney, all of Newhall, and Jeremy Rowray and Rachel Rowray, both of Waterloo; great-grandchildren, Levi LeFebure of Cedar Rapids, Tabitha Rowray and Alysia Rowray, both of Shepherdsville, Ky., and Gaige Rafferty of Broken Arrow, Okla.; siblings, Bessie, Dick, Lloyd, Susie, Shirley, Myrtle, Lora and Jack; and honorary daughters, Kendra and JLo.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents, Menard and Bessie (Edmonds) Rowray; wife, Doris; son, Dennis Rowray; grandson, Chris Rowray, brother, Menard Rowray; sister, Mary Louise; and brother, Victor Rowray.
Norm was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, to Maynard and Bessie Rowray. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids in 1944. Norm was a veteran and served his country in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He married Doris Anne Crowley on Feb. 15, 1948, at First Christian Church in Cedar Rapids. Norm worked at Quaker Oats as a grain buyer for 41 1/2 years until he retired in 1988.
He loved camping, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family and friends. He was a Beagle fan and loved his Beagle, Mercee. In his later years, Norm enjoyed paper tole work.
