Norman McMurrin
NORMAN NATHANIEL MCMURRIN
Otterville
On March 25, 2016,
another fierce soul was called home.
Norman was born to
William and Francis "Mae" (White) McMurrin on March 8, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He married Sharon Leidgh on Dec 21, 1957, in Oxford Junction. Being a retired iron
worker (local 89, Cedar Rapids), an arborist and former avid skydiver, Norman was as much at home in the air as he was when his feet were on the ground as a gardener and a naturalist. He was a passionate protector of wildlife and their habitats.
Norman is survived by his bride, Sharon of Otterville; son, Greg of Houston, Texas; one sister, Pauline Johnstone of Cedar Rapids; three brothers, Robert (Joyce Sampica) and Roger (Pam), both of Waterloo, and Dewayne (Sharon) of Florida; and a great-grandaughter, Christara, who is being raised by them in Otterville. Norman also is survivied by five granddaughters; several great-grandchildren including, Nicholas Bokemeyer of Oklahoma; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Kevin and Rick; one daughter, Joy; four brothers, Wilbur, Albert, Neil and Donny; and one grandaughter, Amber.
It was Norman's request to be cremated and have his ashes "be returned to the soil they came from." There will be a Celebration of Life from 2 to 4 p.m.
Saturday, April 2, at the VFW, 128 Third Ave., Independence. Please come and share your memories with Sharon and Christara.
Memorials can be directed to the family.
White Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
