Norman Lawrence Heistand, age 80, of Vinton, Iowa passed away at the Hiawatha Care Center on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
A visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, on Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 9:30 AM until service time at 11 AM with Pastor Aaron Berta and Matt Ott officiating. Interment with Military Honors to follow at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery-Memorial Lawn. A luncheon will follow at the Cedar Memorial Family Center.
Norman was born on September 14, 1945, in Dunlap, IA. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Rose (Probasco) Heistand. On February 26, 1972, Norman married the love of his life, Dorothy Baldwin in Ames, IA. Norman was deeply involved in Oak Grove Church. He loved working on small engines, ultralight airplanes, motorcycles, and spending time with his family.
Those left to cherish Norman’s memory are his loving wife, Dorothy, of Vinton, IA; his son, James (Stephanie Bridge) of Cedar Rapids, IA; his siblings, Henry Heistand of Cortez, CO and Margaret (Gary) Reihman of Williamsburg, IA; his brothers-in-law, Marshall Scichilone and Fred White, several nieces and nephews, and his precious cat, Tiger. He was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest son John Heistand, his sisters, Rita Scichilone, Diane White, Norma Jean Heistand and his brother Carl Heistand.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Hiawatha Care Center and Hospice of Mercy for all the love and support they showed Norman while he was in their care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to a charity of one’s choice.
