NORMAN K. JELLISON
Cedar Rapids
Norman K. Jellison, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. A gathering in honor of Norman's life will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. The celebration of Norman's life will continue at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Viking Lounge, 1971 16th Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids.
Norman was born Feb. 17, 1937, in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Claude and Adelaide (Linnevold) Jellison. They later moved to Cedar Rapids, where he graduated from Roosevelt High School. He married Mary Jane Harris in 1958. They were later divorced. Norman worked at Evergreen Packaging for 37 years prior to his retirement in 1999. Norman was a member of the UAW Local No. 1024 and Commander USA Fan Club. He was known for his sense of humor and he told a lot of jokes. Many times he would write his own. Known lovingly as "Stormin' Norman," he was always cheering for the underdog. Norman was an avid Chicago Cubs, Bears and Hawkeye fan. Norman loved fishing, bowling and "experimental" cooking in the kitchen. He spent a lot of time reading and bought the very first issue of "MAD Magazine." Norman never missed an issue since. He tested his knowledge by watching "Jeopardy" religiously and liked to write letters to the editor at The Gazette. Norman was loved by many and he will be dearly missed.
Norman is survived by his children, Steven (Jeanne) Jellison of Cedar Rapids, David (Sheila) Jellison of Covington, Robert Jellison of Cedar Rapids and Vicki Reiner of Clarkston, Wash.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Judith Roeder of Marion; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Hospice House of Mercy for their loving care of Norman.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
