Norma J. Strempke, 81, of Independence, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at ABCM Rehab Center of Independence, East Campus. She was born Dec. 13, 1935, in Littleton, the daughter of Marvin Raymond and Edna Hazel (Manross) Ohl. She attended school in Littleton. On July 21, 1954, she and Clifford Frederick Strempke were married in Independence. He preceded her in death in 2013. Mrs. Strempke was an engineering technical writer at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, until retiring in 1991. After that, she and her husband delivered motor homes all over the country for several years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence. She enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren, putting together puzzles, playing cards and quilting.
Mrs. Strempke is survived by two daughters, Karlita (David) Jacobsen of Independence and Tracy (Darrell) Wencke of Mays, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Darlene Striet and Vivian Leyh, both of Oelwein, and Marlys (Danny) Nissen of Evansdale.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Karl Strempke and twin infants, Ronald and Donald; one daughter, Linda Schrage; one sister, Lucille Hill; and a brother, Howard Ohl.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at White Funeral Home in Independence. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 3 until 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.White-Mt.Hope.com.
