Norma L. Schares, 82,
of rural La Porte City, died Sunday, April 3, 2016. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 7, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, with burial at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Gilbertville. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, and one hour before services Thursday at the church. There will be a parish rosary at 4 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials will be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville and to the Cedar Valley Hospice. Online condolences may be posted at www.White-MtHope.com.
She is survived by three sons, John (Karla) Schares of Jesup, Scott Schares of Independence and Roger (Julie) Schares of Jesup; four daughters, Deb (Gary) Jacobsen of Jesup, Lora Schares of Livingston, Texas, Doris Schares of Marion and Judy Schares of Waterloo; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Dot (Rod) Maudlin of Eddyville; two sisters, Doris (Bernard) Brown of Dunkerton and LaVonne Friedley of Waterloo; and one brother, LaVern (Janice) Weber of Gilbertville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Cleo P. Schares and Melvin A. Schares Jr.; one grandson, Nicholas Schares; three sisters, Magdalen Wirtz, Ella Even and Betty Dilley; and six brothers, Raphael, Arnold, Leo, Ronald, Stanley and Cleo Weber.
