Norma S. Morrissey, 101, a resident of Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, died March 26, 2015. Private family services will be at a later date. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Winslow Fish and Alice Churchill Fish; her beloved husband, Eldred Earl "Al" Morrissey; her dear son, Charles Barry Morrissey; her precious daughter, Lizbeth "Kelly" Morrissey; her sister, Buddy Desmond; and her granddaughter, Kerry Morrissey Duffy.
Surviving are her children, Timothy Morrissey of Hiawatha and Kathy Layden and her husband, Pete, of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving is Donna Morrissey, wife of Charles Barry Morrissey.
Also surviving are her grandchildren, Molly Tackaberry, Holly Lewis and Suzanne Elias (Barry's children); Greg Morrissey, Melissa Morrissey, Alison Egolf, Shanna Cooper and Kelsey Duffy Morrissey (Tim's children); Angela Simon and Michael Layden (Kathy's children); and Jason Davis, Kelly's son; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by Suki Morrissey.
Norma was born June 1, 1913, in Woodstock, lll. She met her future husband, Al Morrissey, at Carroll College in Waukesha, Wis. On Aug. 31, 1933, she and Al were married and soon after they moved to Mount Vernon, lowa, to start their family. They purchased a house and 15 acres on the edge of Mount Vernon, where Norma lived until 2012.
ln 1944, Al purchased an insurance agency, where Norma worked as office manager for many years.
Norma was a member of the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, Entre Nous, a literary club, and she was a member of the same bridge group for 65 years. She and Al were very involved with Cornell College, where she was made an honorary alumna.
Norma was an enthusiastic and prolific painter who won numerous ribbons at the All-lowa Fair.
She loved to read, paint, cook, complete crosswords, tell stories, and have her family and friends join her around her large kitchen table. She was creative, funny, a consummate lady and she loved children.
A memorial fund has been established at the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church.
