Norma J. McVay, 87, of Palo, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, in her home following a short illness. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Teahen Funeral Home by the Rev. John Howerton. Burial: Palo Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Norma is survived by a daughter, Carol (John) Dix; grandchildren, Angela (Danny) McVay-Kaiser, David (Brenda) McVay, Tammi (Mike) Kuba, Becky McVay, Trisca Dix, Raymond (Paula) Dix and Robert Dix; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and sisters, Ada Olmsted and Christina (Calvin) Moore.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne (2010); son, Gary McVay; brother, Bill Rawson; and sisters, Nadine Nelson and Arnolia Schmorr.
Norma Jean was born Sept. 23, 1927, in Covington, the daughter of Martin Shaw and Arnolia Glea West Rawson. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1944. Norma married Wayne E. McVay on Nov. 10, 1945. She worked at Palo Savings Bank for more than 40 years.
Norma was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She served as secretary of Palo Cemetery in her retirement and on the Palo Savings Bank board of directors. Norma enjoyed quilting, traveling, gardening and spending time with loved ones. Along with wonderful memories, her family will cherish the quilts she made for them.
Norma was a wonderful caring woman, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, who will be deeply missed by all.
Instead of flowers, a memorial fund at Palo Savings Bank has been established in Norma's name.
