Norma A. Essig, 94 of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Sept. 1, 2022.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Park Home. A private committal service will be held on a later date.
Norma Arleen Schreckengast was born Aug. 1, 1928, in Newton, Iowa, daughter of Letha and Benjamin Schreckengast. She spent her entire life in Cedar Rapids graduating from Franklin High School. In 1950 she was united in marriage to Robert D. Essig.
In the earlier years, Norma stayed home to raise her children. Later she was a bus driver for the Cedar Rapids School District. For many years it brought her great joy to daily transport children with special needs.
Norma was a long-time active member of Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church and, later, Calvin Sinclair Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her children, Nancy and Bob (Sarah). She is also blessed with three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Waiting for her in heaven are her parents, husband Bob, as well as many dear relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Norma would prefer that donations be made in her name to Discovery Living, Inc., 1015 Old Marion Rd. N.E., Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
