Norbert Sperfslage, 81, of Marion, Iowa, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday, March 7, 2025, in Mesa, Arizona, while snow birding. Visitation from 4-7:00 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2025, Papich Kuba Funeral Home, 1228 2nd Street SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52401. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Norb was born June 6, 1943, in Earlville, Iowa, son to Frank and Magdaline (Eike) Sperfslage. He met his soulmate Sharron (better known as St. Sharron) on a blind date in 1962. Two years later they were married in Earlville, on May 3, 1965. They had five children, Mark, Jeff, Bill, Sheila, and Dave.
Norb worked at Cargill Corn Plant for 40 years, retiring in August 2005. He enjoyed working in his garden and sharing the veggies he grew. In 1977 he built a log cabin where he enjoyed deer, turkey, and mushroom hunting. He also was a great fisherman. He really enjoyed a good cold beer and a couple shots of Black Velvet.
Norb is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sharron; children, Mark Sperfslage, Jeff (Karen) Sperfslage of Marion, Bill (Caren) Sperfslage of Prairieburg, Iowa, Sheila (Ed) Kirby of Anamosa, Iowa, and Dave Sperfslage of Anamosa; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Francis Sperfslage, of Edgewood, Iowa, Eugene (Janet) Sperfslage of Marion, and Tom (Lou) Sperfslage of Central City, Iowa; sister, Viola (Clifford Bentley) of Shueyville, Iowa; and sisters-in-law, Alice Sperfslage of Strawberry Point, Iowa, and Lucy Sperfslage of Ames, Iowa.
Norb was preceded in death by his parents, mother- and father-in-law, Gene (Berniece) Root; sister, Dorothy Ann; brothers, Jimmy, Lawerence, Richard, and Harold Sperfslage; brother-in-law, Gary Root; and granddaughter, Ashley Sperfslage.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
