Norbert C. "Mike" Michel, 88, formerly of Iowa City and West Liberty, passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, at Mercy Iowa City.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St.
Joseph Catholic Church in Hills. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty, with a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. Burial with military honors will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, rural Hills.
Memorials may be made to West Liberty Fire and Rescue Unit.

Norbert was born Feb. 21, 1927, in Iowa City, the son of Walter and Agnes (Rummelhart) Michel. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Iowa City.
On April 7, 1956, he was united in marriage to Marlovene Vincent in Iowa City. Mike had worked at Meyers Motor, Hartwig Motors and Breese Napa Auto Parts.
He was a member of the American Legion, enjoyed flowers and gardening, and was always barefoot. Mike was a die-hard New York Yankees and Oakland Raiders fan.
Survivors include two sons, Phillip (Marci) Michel of Solon and Jack (Sharon) Michel of Coralville; two grandchildren, CJ and Hailee; and a sister, Mary Jean Kessler.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marly; and two brothers, Donald and Richard.
