Norbeck, John Edwin
John Edwin Norbeck, 83, of Coralville, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 19, at the Coralville United Methodist Church, 806 13th Ave. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville. Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iowa City Community Band.
Ed, the son of Johan Edvin (John Edwin) Norbeck and Rosella Ann Wellington, was born on June 10, 1930, in Seattle, Wash. Ed received his BS degree from Reed College and his MS and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1956. He was a professor emeritus at the University of Iowa, Department of Physics and Astronomy. He was currently pursuing his experimental work with the CMS collaboration at CERN. He was involved with, and was a member of many organizations such as the Coralville United Methodist Church, the Iowa City Community Band, IEEE, DNP and APS.
He is survived by a sister, son, two daughters and a grandson.
In June 1984, he married Janet Branson, and is survived by his wife and stepchildren: two sons, two daughters, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
