Beth LaMere, 88, of Columbia, Mo., formerly of Edgewood and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, in Columbia. Funeral service in Iowa will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Edgewood, Iowa, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery.
Beth was born Nov. 20, 1929, in Delaware County, Iowa, to Clifford and Pearl (Whitehead) Ash. She attended Upper Iowa University, earning a teaching certificate. After teaching one year, she moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she worked at several jobs, including Square D, where she met her husband. On April 30, 1955, she married John Richard LaMere in Edgewood, Iowa. In 1979, her family moved to Columbia. Beth was a talented person. She loved music and played several instruments. She was an artist, poet and writer. She taught oil painting and memoir writing at the Columbia Senior Center for several years.
Beth is survived by her sons, Loren (Kathy) LaMere and Noel LaMere of Columbia; grandchildren, Sharree (Brian) Rose of Columbia and Shawn (Lindsay) LaMere of Arlington Heights, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Emma Rose and Grayson LaMere; brother, Clay Ash of Vinton, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband; and brother, Garlyn Ash.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
