Nohre, Joan Marion
Joan Marion Nohre, 83, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Marion, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Bartels Nursing Home in Waverly on Friday, May 3, 2013. Services are pending at St. John Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls.
Joan M. Rude was born Sept. 30, 1929, in Glenwood Township, Winneshiek County, the daughter of Theodore and Amelia (Sagan) Rude. She married her husband, Enus Nohre, in Nashua on Dec. 31, 1948. She spent most of her life as a loving mother and wife. Later in life she earned her certified nursing degree, helping in various homes as well as serving as a senior companion.
Joan was always very active in her church, including teaching Sunday school for 20 years. She also volunteered for hospice, American Cancer Society, Council on Aging, Girl Scouts, and Campfire Girls.
Joan is survived by her children, Jacquelyn Meyer (John) of Waterloo and Scott Nohre of Marion; her sister, Susie Ramsey of Decorah; her grandchildren, Joanna Ramsden-Meier (Kevin) of Waterloo and Jay Meier of Cedar Falls; and her great-grandchildren, Emma Leigh Ramsden-Meier and Brady Ramsden-Meier, both of Waterloo.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Paul, Allan and George Rude; and her sisters, Thelma and (in infancy) Elisabeth Rude.
Memorials in Joan's name may be made to the Joan Nohre Scholarship at Allen College, Waterloo, or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
