NIOMA STRAKA

Nioma Straka, 94, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, April 7, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services will be 4 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Cedar Valley Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2204 26th St. NW. Private family burial will be in Czech National Cemetery. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Nioma was born Sept. 3, 1919, in Colesburg, the daughter of George and Mabel (Engleman) Ziel. She was united in marriage to Louis Straka. Nioma enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, tending to her flowers and cats. She was fond of the simple things in life, like having a picnic and spending time with friends and family.
Nioma is survived by her daughters, Joyce Ann (Phil) Stromer of Waterloo and Susan Kay (Dennis) Lamprecht of Cedar Rapids; one granddaughter, Joanie (Randy) Wolfe of Waterloo; and two sisters, Elnor Johnson of Edgewood and Viola (Louie) Holtz of Man-chester.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis, who died in June 1989, a grandson, Kenny Dietz; a brother-in-law, Victor Johnson; her two brothers and four sisters.
