Nightingale, Phyllis Jean
Phyllis Jean Nightingale, 72, of Dundee, died at Regional Medical Center in Manchester on Saturday morning, July 25, 2009. There will be no visitation. Graveside services, with inurnment: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fairview Cemetery, Winthrop. The Rev. Jill Mack will officiate.
She was born Oct. 23, 1936, in Stanberry, Mo., the daughter of Wilmer Virgil and Oletha Mae (Hines) Carter. After her birth, the family moved to Tarkio, Mo., where she was raised and educated. The family lived in Kansas and Phyllis moved to Iowa in 1969. On June 20, 1970, Phyllis was united in marriage to Billy Ray Nightingale at Dundee. She worked at Ertl Corp. as an assembler for over 20 years until her retirement.
Phyllis was a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary in Cedar Rapids. She loved to crochet and sew and made many quilts. She enjoyed her cats, and going to garage sales and flea markets.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Ray Nightingale of Dundee; a sister, Kathlyn Rich of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, James (Connie) Carter of Sacramento, Calif., and Gary (Sandy) Carter of Satanta, Kan.; one sister-in-law, Linda (Max) Berry of Dundee; and two brothers-in-law, Dean (Lois) Nightingale and Bob (Kathy) Nightingale, all of Dundee.
